Exciting, uplifting news as the Schaumburg Childrens Center is dedicated – a great community resource for all.

This last week the Children’s Home and Aid of Illinois dedicated the Marletta Darnall Schaumburg Child and Family Center.

The Center was originally to be constructed from state funds before they were frozen back in 2003 – thanks to Marletta and Bob Darnall who donated $500,000 to complete the center it is now open for business!

Getting the center open, from a dream through to construction has been a struggle and the dedication ceremony reflected that – with many stories of the path that the center has taken.

A childrens center is a great resource for the local Schaumburg community. A place for fun and learning, it is open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 250 days a year for child care services.

Chicagoland IL NW Suburb Real Estate: Digging on your property this spring? Call JULIE!

April 30th, 2010 joestacy Posted in Schaumburg Info No Comments »

Excavator

Who you gonna call? Call JULIE!

Spring time is here and the planting season is well underway – but for many this means the unfortunate episode of accidentally cut power cables, burst pipes and more. What am I talking about? Well, digging without knowing where your utilities are!

Last year we wrote about JULIE - here in Illinois, anyone planning on an outdoor project that requires any type of digging regardless of the depth or project size needs to call JULIE before they start digging. JULIE stands for Joint Utility Locating Information for Excavators which is a not-for-profit corporation that provides homeowners and professional excavators with FREE locating and marking of underground utilities.

So, if you are planning a project for this spring that requires digging, you need to call JULIE at 800-892-0123 or if in the city limits of Chicago call 312-744-7000. You now may also dial 811. You must call at least 48 hours or 2 working days (excluding holidays) in advance of the start of your excavation. When you call, be prepared to provide the operator your name, address, a phone number at which you can be reached and a fax number if available. You must also provide the county, city and address of where the excavation is to take place (if different than your contact information) and the start date and time for the planned excavation. It is recommended that you property identify your project area by marking the area with white paint and/or flags.

Within 2 working days, a representative from each utility company will mark the location of their underground utility with paint and/or flags at the excavation site. Each utility locator uses a different color paint or flag to mark their buried utility. Gas is yellow, electric is red, water is blue, TV or phone is orange and sewer is green. Work must be completed in 14 days.

When you are ready to start digging – keep this in mind:

Trees are great plants, and can help add value to your property however they require:

1. Great location.
2. Great Drainage
3. Appropriatly sized planting hole.

So, happy and safe digging.

Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate: More About Schaumburg Illinois – Schaumburg Regional Airport

March 22nd, 2010 joestacy Posted in Schaumburg Info Comments Off

Late Businessman Running After Airplane

Many people will often overlook the importance of a local general aviation airport.

However, for those who do use places like Schaumburg Regional Airport , the rewards can be breathtaking scenery and the trip of a lifetime!

Local, general aviation airports help boost the local economy – business jets and smaller commerical aircrafts can utilize their runways and benefit from their proximity to large urban centers – like in our case, Chicago – without having all the hassle of dealing with the international airports.

Smaller airports can offer a benefit to the local community and real estate prices – plane owners generally are wealthy businessmen and women who like to live close to where they keep their plane, creating a demand for higher end real estate in the area. If you are a pilot who is looking for a home near Schaumburg Regional Airport then please give me a call and contact me today.

Schaumburg benefits from its regional airport. In fact, there are several fun things local residents can do at the airport as a “day out” – including from Schaumburg Regional Airport aerial tours of the Chicago skyline! Whether by plane or helicopter – it’s a great way to spend the afternoon on a clear day. “General Aviation Serves America” – more than one million jobs nationwide rely on the industry and local facilities like Schaumburg Airport are part of it!

The airport also contains a “runway-side” restaurant – Pilot Pete’s where those who fly or who are interested in the hobby can grab a bite and enjoy soaking up the atmosphere!

Getting involved in general aviation can be fun for all ages – as can learning to fly yourself! Often these greeat facilities are overlooked. We, as a community here in Schaumburg, are lucky to have a local general aviation airport to serve our community and the general airport.

Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate: More About The Area – James “Pate” Philip State Park

February 5th, 2010 joestacy Posted in Schaumburg Info, Things To Do, Uncategorized Comments Off

Traditional Korean Papermaking Developed In Jeonju

Most people think of Chicago and the Metro area as urbane and overdeveloped, but just outside the metro area we have some great communities and locations which help personify small town America.

Within a short drive is James “Pate” Philip State Park, originally called “Tri-County State Park” but names after a Republican politician and encompassing 3432 acres of DuPage and Kane Counties. Despite being a nice rural spot, many people often wonder, why? Often state parks boast incredibly obvious sights of outstanding natural beauty worth protecting. However when you first visit this state park, many are surprised. After all, the area is predominantly old farmland and encompasses the north branch of Brewester Creek and a gravel pit close by. But – Do not be fooled! The park is more important than you might think!

On closer inspection, however you understand why! After all 3432 acres is not a small amount of land, so firstly the fact that it has been left untouched is a feat in itself. Also this area enables breeding populations of animals such as sandhill cranes, herons and Blanding’s turtles to find undisturbed habitat to raise their offspring. The area forms part of the Pratt’s Wayne Woods Forest Preserve and actually contains the remnants of one of the most diverse natural systems that ever graced the Illinois landscape, the tall grass prairie. In addition a small area of wetland remains in the middle of the park – this wetland is home to an Illinois endangered species, the dwarf bur reed. This fact alone warranted this wetland to be listed as an Illinois Wetland Reserve in 1990.

Like most of the state parks the aim is to preserve the environment as be possible to ensure that natural ecosystems can remain and recover from years of destruction by development. The James “Pate” Philip Park benefits from a great visitors center which highlights the reasons and the need for restoration to occur in natural areas, where ever they may be located.

So if you wish to see natural Illinois then take a drive and see the state park!

Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate: More About Schaumburg Park District

Travel

Going to the park is something which we all enjoy, whatever our age – if we are young it is to have fun, meet up with friends and play. When we are older it is to relax or to keep fit – lets face it, I know we could all still lose a few pounds after the holidays!

Well here in Schaumburg we have an excellent parks system which helps add to the aesthetic quality of the city.  In fact, the parks system is quite literally, award winning! From the park directory you can see that there are dozens and dozens of parks which are managed by them – from a skate park to a ball field, through to an ice rink!

In addition to parks and other outdoor recreation areas it also looks after several community centers - which are used for many different events. Speaking of events, don’t forget that you can locally tune in to their cable tv station!

You may wonder why a park is important? Well, any community facility is sought after and in the case of parks they really add to the small town community spirit and help attract those relocating from areas which lack green space. Here in Schaumburg, we are lucky to have such beautiful green space to enjoy and use on a regular basis.
