Exciting, uplifting news as the Schaumburg Childrens Center is dedicated – a great community resource for all.

This last week the Children’s Home and Aid of Illinois dedicated the Marletta Darnall Schaumburg Child and Family Center.

The Center was originally to be constructed from state funds before they were frozen back in 2003 – thanks to Marletta and Bob Darnall who donated $500,000 to complete the center it is now open for business!

Getting the center open, from a dream through to construction has been a struggle and the dedication ceremony reflected that – with many stories of the path that the center has taken.

A childrens center is a great resource for the local Schaumburg community. A place for fun and learning, it is open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 250 days a year for child care services.

Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate & Community News: June is “Leave No Child Inside” Month in Chicagoland & Illinois! Get Out and Enjoy Our Region!

June 11th, 2010 joestacy Posted in SCHAUMBRUG IL COMMUNITY EVENTS No Comments »

Summer is virtually here and like much of the country, the better weather has come at the same time as the kids are off for their long (neverending?) summer break!

How to amuse them!?

Well, this month Governor Quinn proclaims June “Leave No Child Inside” Month in Illinois and throughout the month, he is encouraging young people to spend more time outdoors enjoying natural resources that we have in the area!

After all, we have some of the most beautiful natural sites in the country – from our state parks to our lakes and rivers, we have some beautiful areas!

As part of the month (which was launched back in 2007) there are many featured events, for instance, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) and many partners will host free family events to help connect kids with nature. William W. Powers State Recreation Area in Chicago, James “Pate” Philip State Park and Illinois Beach State Park in Zion all have events throughout the month!

Studies show that when children spend time outdoors not only are there health benefits that come with exercise, but feelings of anxiety and depression decrease, concentration and performance at school improves and they gain an early appreciation and love of nature. Of course the exercise itself lowers high blood pressure and contributes to an overall improvement in physical health and fitness and helps kids lose weight!

So, in short – get outdoors and enjoy our area!

March 20th, 2010 kinetic Posted in SCHAUMBRUG IL COMMUNITY EVENTS, Schaumburg Info Comments Off

Patriotic Pride

Safety is the name of the game in Schaumburg Illinois!

Today the Schaumburg Police Department celebrates its 50th anniversary with an open house at its station.

Local residents are always encouraged to find out more about its local Police department and what it does for them.

The local police station was named the Martin J. Conroy Police Center after the village’s first police chief and has gone from strength to strength throughout the years. Their safety record is unparalleled and the safety of the village 75,000 residents is always on their mind. The town has grown and grown over the years with the decision to police itself being made in 1960 when the population was only 1,000!

Open days are a great chance for all – Bartlett Police Department recently held a successful open day for its residents. Modern Policing is not just about crime prevention it is also about community involvement and participation.

With more and more real estate development throughout the Schaumburg area it is no surprise that the police department is always busy and active in the community.

Like all Americans, I am proud of our police officers who do a fine job of keeping us safe.

Schaumburg’s low crime rate is a reason many want to relocate to here and the surrounding areas such as Bartlett and Hoffman Estates.

Support your local libraries here in Illinois!

The internet is a great and wonderful thing,  but if you, like me, sometimes love to go to the library, not just for peace and quiet, but to research something or to simply check out the latest best seller.

Our libraries are always under threat from our digital age – however, they are not a relic to be consigned to the past, they are an integral part of the community which are growing with new technology.

Libraries over the years have changed their role from a book repository to a general community center.

In the case of Schaumburg, the Schaumburg Township District Library serves in excess 134,000 residents in portions of the municipalities Elk Grove, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Roselle, Schaumburg and Streamwood. With over 1 million visitors each year, the library circulates over 2,000,000 items annually and is the second largest public library in the state of Illinois.

The district is comprised of three libraries. The Central, located on Town Square; Hanover Park Branch on Irving Park Road and Hoffman Estates Branch on Hassell Road. They own over 600,000 items, including more that 500,000 books and over 100,000 audiovisual items. With the Central Library being 166,500 swuare feet, Hoffman Estates branch is 9,700 square feet, and Hanover Park branch is 9,500 square feet.

Hoffman Estates is also served by other Library systems, listed here:

Palatine Public Library District
Freeman Road Branch
1262 Freeman Road
Hoffman Estates, IL 60192

Gail Borden Public Library District
270 N. Grove Ave.
Elgin, IL 60120

Barrington Area Library
505 N. Northwest Highway
Barrington, IL 60010

You can find out which you belong to in Hoffman Estates by clicking here.

Also, in Barlett, IL Library District which has many locations which can be used by its members as part of the DuPage system.

Library cards over the years have also kept pace with technology – they are not longer used for simple identification, but also to track an electronic account and more!

In short – libraries are an important part of our community, so here in Bartlett, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg as well as the rest of Northwest Chicagoland, Illinois lets all get out, join our local library and rediscover the joy of reading and become an active member of the community.

Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate: More About Schaumburg Park District

Travel

Going to the park is something which we all enjoy, whatever our age – if we are young it is to have fun, meet up with friends and play. When we are older it is to relax or to keep fit – lets face it, I know we could all still lose a few pounds after the holidays!

Well here in Schaumburg we have an excellent parks system which helps add to the aesthetic quality of the city.  In fact, the parks system is quite literally, award winning! From the park directory you can see that there are dozens and dozens of parks which are managed by them – from a skate park to a ball field, through to an ice rink!

In addition to parks and other outdoor recreation areas it also looks after several community centers - which are used for many different events. Speaking of events, don’t forget that you can locally tune in to their cable tv station!

You may wonder why a park is important? Well, any community facility is sought after and in the case of parks they really add to the small town community spirit and help attract those relocating from areas which lack green space. Here in Schaumburg, we are lucky to have such beautiful green space to enjoy and use on a regular basis. So if you are looking for a property in Schaumburg near to a park then call me and I will help you in your search.
