Chicago Slaughter are members of the Central Division of the Indoor Football League. They are one of three indoor/arena football teams in Chicago. Slaugher won their first championship back last year in 2009 – the fastest of any Indoor Football League team!

From early beginnings in 2006 when the team was formed (with its original planned named being the “Foxes”) , the team has gone from strength to strength and is proud to call the area home.

The team has a mascot – the official Slaughter mascot is a spin off the G.I. Joe Character Sargent Slaughter and he is popular with the fans!

This is great news for the Village of Hoffman Estates!

You can never be too prepared! – A new emergency alert system has been rolled out for Hoffman Estates courtesy of the Everbridge Mass Emergency Notification System.

This system is designed to provide essential information quickly in a variety of emergency situations (lost children, evacuations, important police and fire activities). The system can also improve public awareness in non-emergencies, such as Village events, road closures and special services.

If an emergency occured, the village officials can notify residents in a matter of minutes. The system delivers messages across all communication platforms, including cell and landline phone numbers, e-mail addresses, instant messaging, fax, personal data assistants (PDAs), and pagers listed within the system. If phone lines are busy, the system will redial a predetermined number of times to make contact. If an answering machine picks up the call, an emergency message will be left on the machine. If the telephone rings without an answer (after a predetermined number of attempts), the system will use the next contact path that has been supplied by each resident. The system is currently loaded with every listed landline phone number from existing 9-1-1 data.

Things are certainly on the up for Hoffman Estates - commerical real estate is being snapped up as companies are relocating to the area adding to the regions growth. This naturally has a knock on effect…

Bill McLeod, Mayor of Hoffman Estates said: “Recent interest in vacant retail and business locations within Hoffman Estates encourages us to look forward to expanded economic development within the village in 2010.”

As I recently wrote, the Village is taking over the Sears Center as part of its plan for the future. Now a New York investment firm paid $32 million for the new North American headquarters of a Japanese company.

An affiliate of W. P. Carey & Co. paid about $314 a square foot for the 102,000-square-foot office and warehouse at 2400 Huntington Blvd. in northwest suburban Hoffman Estates as part of the Huntington Woods Corporate Center. The recently completed two-story building was built for machine tool maker Mori Seiki USA Inc., which has a 20-year lease. The all-cash deal closed Monday is part of the beginning for the whole Huntington Woods Corporate Center which plans to grow. Plans for the 67-acre Huntington Woods Corporate Center, near I-90 and Barrington Road, include offices, a movie theater and two restaurants totaling 30,000 square feet.

This is very exciting news for the area. After all, with residential real estate on the up for the state for November 2009 up 64% over November 2008 and up 71.6% for the Chicago area according to the Illinois Association of Realtors.  Not to mention in Hoffman Estates home sales have increased 23%! With the economic recovery well underway now the state is looking forward to 2010 where the 2010 economic outlook for housing is the best since 2005!

This plan was originally agreed upon in September, and the arena’s original owners, MadKatStep, started foreclosure proceedings on the property this last fall.

The Village of Hoffman Estates IL has agreed to take over the financially troubled Sears Centre at the end of the year.

Hoffman Estates Village also has contracted Global Spectrum of Philadelphia to run the arena’s operations to make sure that early January events stay on track.  This agreement will keep the arena open and operating, and will expect to break even in 2011, and eventually bring a profit to the Village of Hoffman Estates IL by 2012. 

This is good news as the Sears Centre provides entertainment and other events to area residents.

Hoffman Estates IL Real Estate Outlook

For the week ending November 25th, the Hoffman Estates IL real estate outlook is still considered the perfect buyer’s market.  The average listing price in Hoffman Estates IL is $275,226 which is down 0.8% or $2,191 compared to the prior week. 

The median sales price is $222,000 and is down from the same period last year 20.7% or $58,000.  Currently there are 321 Hoffman Estates IL homes for sale with 306 of those homes for sale in some step of the foreclosure process. 

Home sales has increased 23% which means that many Hoffman Estates IL homes for sale won’t stick around forever.

The Edwin Frank Children’s Memorial was dedicated outside the Hoffman Estate’s IL Village Hall this last Saturday.  This memorial features names of local children who have died on bricks as well as children statutes. 

The Village of Hoffman Estates was very excited to erect this monument after five years of work and planning in remembrance of community members who have lost children who attended school in Hoffman Estates or lived in this close knit village if they were under school age. 

Dedication bricks are still available at the Village of Hoffman Estates town hall.

On Saturday, February 21 the Tyson American Cup will be taking place at the Sears Center Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL.  For those who don’t already know, the Tyson American Cup is the most prestigious international Pre-Olympic gymnastics competition that features top gymnasts in the country. The event will feature fun activities for fans, including but not limited to:

• “Celebration Of Champions” Autograph Signing- Several Olympic gold medalists will sign autographs for fans from 12:30 – 1:10 p.m.

• Tyson Fitness Challenge Zone- Kids can learn about the importance of health and fitness while having fun participating in activities centered on strength-building, flexibility, cardiovascular exercise and good nutrition. Those who complete the Tyson Fitness Challenge Zone will get autographs from 2004 silver medalist Blaine Wilson. This activity runs from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

• Chicago 2016 Booth- Stop by this booth to pledge your support for Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games

Hoffman Estates, IL is home to Cabela’s, the world’s foremost outfitter of hunting, fishing and camping clothing and equipment. Besides supplying outdoorsmen with all of their equipment needs, the 185,000 square foot retail showroom is an educational and entertainment attraction featuring museum quality animal displays, 2 large fresh water aquariums, indoor play shooting range and large trophy animals interacting in a realistic recreation of their natural habitat. On one of my visits, my son and I watched them do a feeding in the bass tank. What a great learning experience to see how fish feed.

Cabela’s also features a restaurant and delicatessen offering wild game entrees as well as traditional sandwiches. Menu items include deli sandwiches made from Elk, Wild Boar, Bison, Ostrich and the traditional other deli meats. On a recent visit with a friend, we enjoyed the Bison Burger as well as a Venison Brat. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. Also, if you are planning a meeting in the Northwest suburbs try the Fox River Grill, a deluxe banquet facility and meeting room accommodating from 12-50 people for a lunch part or banquet.

One major bonus of living in Hoffman Estates is its famous entertainment district, which has been growing rapidly with the birth of the Sears Centre Arena in October 2006. The Sears Centre Arena has become the largest entertainment venue in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. It seats 11,000 and is home to the Chicago Storm (Xtreme Soccer League), the Chicago Slaughter (Continental Indoor Football League), and the Chicago Shamrox (National Lacrosse League).
