Exciting news from the Bartlett Fire Protection District Board of Trustees who have decided to appoint interim Chief Michael W. Falese to the position of permenant fire chief.

This is very exciting news! Michael has been the district interim chief since the retirement of former Chief Kevin Heine, assumes the post immediately.

He has served for 24 years with the Elgin Fire Department and started as a firefighters before working his way up to Cheif. He retired from Elgin in July 2007 and was hired by the Bartlett district as the assistant chief of operations in the following September.

A formal swearing in ceremony for the new cheif is scheduled soon!

With such a strong community focus, Bartlett is a community where everyone knows each other, so local hero’s are always championed in the press!

Fire safety in your home is of course important – make sure to never leave a stove or grill unattended and make sure to keep new batteries in your smoke alarms and test them regularly!

Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate & News: Beaver Pond Park Makeover In Bartlett IL

May 28th, 2010 joestacy Posted in BARTLETT IL ACTIVITIES, BARTLETT IL COMMUNITY EVENTS, BARTLETT IL REAL ESTATE No Comments »

Glades Morning Glory

Bartlett has so many beautiful parks in the Bartlett Park District and Beaver Pond Park is no exception. BUT! It is getting a makeover, which would include a new picnic shelter and additional fishing stations, in the near future!

Earlier this month the Village Board met and discussed a review of the park and some permitting. The 21 acre park which is in the Bartlett Lake Estates subdivision north of Stearns Road, has remained essentially undeveloped since it was acquired by the Park District in 1988. Public meetings were conducted to gather residents’ input on possible elements in winter 2007 and spring 2008 with some success.

The Park District proposed making the 11-acre fishing pond more accessible by adding an 8-foot-wide handicapped-accessible asphalt path and seating areas around the pond, horseshoe pits with benches, constructing of a nearly 12-foot-tall picnic shelter and inserting additional fishing stations including a handicapped-accessible year-round floating pier.

Funding for such a makeover is thanks to a $400,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Hopefully redevelopment will start soon!

Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate & News: Western Suburbs of Chicago Post High Responses to the 2010 Census

May 24th, 2010 joestacy Posted in BARTLETT IL COMMUNITY EVENTS No Comments »

U.S. Census Director Urges Residents To Fill Out 2010 Census

When we recently wrote about the census – this was before/as the forms were being mailed out. Well, some time has passed since then. More than a couple of months in fact!

Well, we have some exciting local news for you! – The results of the response levels for the census are in for our area and the news is exciting indeed!Bartlett did a great job.  After mailing in 80 percent or more of the forms — better than the state and national average — many towns are less likely to see door-to-door census-takers in the next few weeks. In fact Bartlett itself returned 84% of forms!

Remember that the Census is a count of everyone living in the United States. The first census was taken in 1790, and has been taken every 10 years since as mandated by the U.S. Constitution. The Census is important as it is required to order voting districts, Electoral College votes, allocation of Federal Aid and more and a response is required by law.

This time round, our delightful western suburbs like

Why did Bartlett return so many? Well, it is partly attributed to residents completing a special censuses that was taken in 2005 and 2007, in which the response was greater than 80 percent. Because the village of Bartlett used short forms to conduct the special censuses, people were better prepared for the similar form used this year.  Of course, this is the political system in action – for instance, a tenth of Illinois’ income tax is returned to cities and towns, and it is dispersed based on census population — money for every man, woman and child. So you are helping your community by responding accurately, and quickly!

Bartlett is a great place to call home and has been on the grow in the last few years so it is likely that this census will show an increase in population figures. With such great amenities and an attractive quality of life for its residents, it is hard not to see why many would choose to relocate to the area.

Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate: Bartlett Police Department – Active in Your Community; Bartlett, Illinois

February 10th, 2010 joestacy Posted in BARTLETT IL COMMUNITY EVENTS Comments Off

Bartlett is a great community, as you can see by the fantastic video above – which is a “flyover” of an interactive map courtesy of “fantasticplanettv” ’s youtube channel - you can see more of Bartlett!

With such a great community spirit and feeling many people take so much pride in where they live. However, not everyone lives in such a friendly environment, therefore the long arm of the law is often thought of as being the disciplinarian and not as it actually is, a community resource.

For instance, here in Bartlett Illinois, the Bartlett Police Department is hosting its annual, free Open House event on Sunday, March 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  This premier event is popular with people of all ages and in the past has drawn crowds as large as 800 people.  It allows a great chance to meet and greet with police personnel and it allows guests to see various police evidence and weapon displays, meet police K-9 Brewster, find out how suspects are fingerprinted, hang out with McGruff the Crime Dog, use the
DUI Fatal Vision Goggles, and learn how to ride the Segway.

For more information, please contact Sergeant Michael Rummell at 630-837-0846.

The Bartlett Police Department also offer great winter driving tips which could be useful to all of us;

  • Make sure to remove any snow or ice from your vehicle’s windshield, windows, headlights, and taillights
    before driving.
  • Monitor weather conditions and allow yourself plenty of time to reach your destination safely.
  • Reduce your speed and leave plenty of room between vehicles to stop safely.

Support your local libraries here in Illinois!

The internet is a great and wonderful thing,  but if you, like me, sometimes love to go to the library, not just for peace and quiet, but to research something or to simply check out the latest best seller.

Our libraries are always under threat from our digital age – however, they are not a relic to be consigned to the past, they are an integral part of the community which are growing with new technology.

Libraries over the years have changed their role from a book repository to a general community center.

In the case of Schaumburg, the Schaumburg Township District Library serves in excess 134,000 residents in portions of the municipalities Elk Grove, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Roselle, Schaumburg and Streamwood. With over 1 million visitors each year, the library circulates over 2,000,000 items annually and is the second largest public library in the state of Illinois.

The district is comprised of three libraries. The Central, located on Town Square; Hanover Park Branch on Irving Park Road and Hoffman Estates Branch on Hassell Road. They own over 600,000 items, including more that 500,000 books and over 100,000 audiovisual items. With the Central Library being 166,500 swuare feet, Hoffman Estates branch is 9,700 square feet, and Hanover Park branch is 9,500 square feet.

Hoffman Estates is also served by other Library systems, listed here:

Palatine Public Library District
Freeman Road Branch
1262 Freeman Road
Hoffman Estates, IL 60192

Gail Borden Public Library District
270 N. Grove Ave.
Elgin, IL 60120

Barrington Area Library
505 N. Northwest Highway
Barrington, IL 60010

You can find out which you belong to in Hoffman Estates by clicking here.

Also, in Barlett, IL Library District which has many locations which can be used by its members as part of the DuPage system.

Library cards over the years have also kept pace with technology – they are not longer used for simple identification, but also to track an electronic account and more!

In short – libraries are an important part of our community, so here in Bartlett, Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg as well as the rest of Northwest Chicagoland, Illinois lets all get out, join our local library and rediscover the joy of reading and become an active member of the community.
