Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate & News: Beaver Pond Park Makeover In Bartlett IL

Glades Morning Glory

Bartlett has so many beautiful parks in the Bartlett Park District and Beaver Pond Park is no exception. BUT! It is getting a makeover, which would include a new picnic shelter and additional fishing stations, in the near future!

Earlier this month the Village Board met and discussed a review of the park and some permitting. The 21 acre park which is in the Bartlett Lake Estates subdivision north of Stearns Road, has remained essentially undeveloped since it was acquired by the Park District in 1988. Public meetings were conducted to gather residents’ input on possible elements in winter 2007 and spring 2008 with some success.

The Park District proposed making the 11-acre fishing pond more accessible by adding an 8-foot-wide handicapped-accessible asphalt path and seating areas around the pond, horseshoe pits with benches, constructing of a nearly 12-foot-tall picnic shelter and inserting additional fishing stations including a handicapped-accessible year-round floating pier.

Funding for such a makeover is thanks to a $400,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Hopefully redevelopment will start soon!

Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate & Community: Bartlett IL History Museum

April 9th, 2010 joestacy Posted in BARTLETT IL ACTIVITIES Comments Off

Couple with dollar in frameHistory and the study of the founding of a location can be fascinating.

Here in Bartlett, we are priviledged to have our great Bartlett IL History Museum.

Back in the depths of time, in its earliest form, the Village of Bartlett, Illinois was an old-time camping and hunting ground for the Potawatomi, Ottawa, Miami, and Cherokee Indians. Throughout its early beginnings it was under the rule of Spain, France, Virginia, England and more! Therefore, if not for the fortuitous intersection of the Chicago and Pacific Railway and 40 acres of land belonging to farmer Luther Bartlett our fantastic village may not be what it is today! From humble beginnings, we grew to a population of 2,291 people as shown in the 1960 Census through to the thriving community of 40,000 today! Bartlett really is steeped in history!

Bartlett benefits from a fantastic history museum - Recently relocated in 2005 to its current location at the Bartlett Village Hall on 228 S. Main Street, the museum now features a third larger exhibit area, more archive space and a multi-purpose room.

Bartlett’s roots aside, the museum’s history itself, go all the way back to 1973, before the nations bicenttennial celebration. Residents formed a local Historical Society with the goal of collecting artifacts on Bartlett and US History.

However despite temporary storage and display space for these items, the dream of a proper, dedicated exhibit space was realized back in 1983 and then later a new home in 1986. From then on in the late 80’s and 1990’s the museum and its program of events and exhibits grew and grew!

Today, home for the Bartlett History Museum is a 1,200-foot area on the first floor of the new Village Hall. The exhibit space is located right off the hall’s main entrance and is inviting to everyone who visits. Cases, boards and two showcase rooms hold and highlight the current artifacts and photos on display. Click here for the latest on current exhibits.

The Museum is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon. It is closed on Sunday. There is no admission fee. Tours by individuals or groups can be arranged. This is definitely a great couple of hours out with family and friends on a rainy afternoon.

Bartlett really is priviledged to offer a high quality of life for its residents. No wonder people want to relocate here!

Chicagoland NW Suburban IL Real Estate: Bartlett, IL Arts Scene Is Part of the High Quality of Life Enjoyed Locally!

January 18th, 2010 joestacy Posted in BARTLETT IL ACTIVITIES Comments Off

I may not know art, but I know what I like!” is an often misquoted phrase originally said by Gelett Burgess.

However, no matter what your knowledge or personal tastes are in art, I will say that art is a great part of life – it helps enhance a community and bring people together in a way other activities do not. The mutual respect and on the flip side, hot debates which arise in admiring art are part of a healthy art community!

Well, Bartlett, Illinois has a very healthy art community. A vibrant art scene offers more to a community than you might think – it helps improve the quality of life of residents and attracts visitors to an area.

As the delightful “Arts in Bartlett” website puts it: “Building community through the arts” – they are Bartlett’s arts council whose mission is to: “To celebrate the arts and personal creativity so that the community and each individual is enriched. To provide access to the cultural arts so that diverse event can be enjoyed by all community members.”

Through their promotion of local arts in the region they run a gallery at the village hall – located at 228 S. Main St., 2nd Floor, Bartlett, IL. Opening hours: 8:30 to 4:30 M-F.; 9 to noon Sat.  Coming at the beginning of next month (February 2010) they are hosting an exhibit entitled:  Awakening to Mother Nature – awe inspiring Photography by local Tina Marie Bibergall. Definitely worth checking out – best of all, it is free!

This event of course is just to whet your appetite! Better yet there are always a host of Art events in Bartlett to attend throughout the coming year! (Not forgetting the 2010 Annual Art Festival June 26 & 27th!)

What is for sure is that a such a vibrant art scene can only contribute positively in making Bartlett such a sought after relocation destination.
